heritage features with modern design, fitzroy
Our most recent client project that we have been working on for the last 12 months, in Fitzroy South Australia. A beautiful family home where marrying heritage features with modern design was a crucial consideration. This project incorporated four main areas including the Master Ensuite, Main Bathroom, open plan Kitchen & Living Room and finished with the Laundry.
The original Master Ensuite was lacking function and not suitable for 2 people to use at the same time. To gain more space we knocked down the adjoining Master Bedroom wall. The extra width that provided enabled us to incorporate a generous double shower – such a luxury in a family home. This bathroom is in the original part of the home, so it was important we paid respect to its heritage features with carefully considered fixtures and fittings.
With three young boys sharing the Main Bathroom, having double vanities and plenty of space was a must. This bathroom is situated in the
newer part of the home, so whilst maintaining heritage features was not crucial, adding subtle nods such as the deco-inspired mirror arch provides a cohesive look to the whole home. When designing this beautiful project it was important to us to be able to both answer the practical needs of the family, as well as craft a beautiful and bespoke bathroom design that will serve the occupants for years to come.
The Kitchen and Living Room had good bones and a practical layout to start with. The addition of new furniture and styling items which balanced modern aesthetics with timeless silhouettes and materials has given the once tired space a sophisticated contemporary look. This space shows that by working with existing architecture and focusing on key areas to update you can transform a home and create a place for your family to enjoy for many years to come.
The newly renovated Laundry is a perfect example of how form and function can combine to elevate an often neglected area, and a reminder that your day-to-day chores can be made that much more enjoyable if your space reflects your style and personality.
